Saul summoned the people and counted them at Telaim. There were two hundred thousand soldiers and ten thousand men from Judah. Saul went to the city of Amalek and set up an ambush in the valley.

Saul said to the Kenites, “Go away, leave the Amalekites, so that I not destroy you along with them. You were kind to all of the Israelites when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites moved away from the Amalekites.[a]
